Obituary
Donald A. Lopes of Carver died Feb. 11, in his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce Lopes; loving father of Terri L. Lopes of Smyrna, Ga.; beloved brother of Andrew Lopes Jr. of Middleboro, Paul Lopes of Illinois, Edwin C. Lopes of Carver, Sandra Silva of Carver, Linda Fernandes of Georgia, Daphne Simon of Plymouth, Lu-Ann Silva of Northampton and the late Janis Porter. He was also the cherished grandfather of Tiffani Mercer, Taucia Mercer, Imani Muhammad and Mack Muhammad, all of Georgia; and five great-grandchildren. Donald was also survived by many nieces and nephews and others who thought of him as a father. Born in Waterbury, Conn., Jan. 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew and Flora (Fernandes) Lopes. He was educated in the Carver schools and a graduate of Silver-Lake High School. Donald was a welder working for Quincy Shipyard, where he retired and was a dedicated member of the Carver V.F.W. He enjoyed sports and served many years as a softball coach as well as played basketball. Visiting hours in the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, Monday from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Cremation will follow in Vine Hills Crematory in Plymouth.
