A 44-year-old Cape Verdean woman was brutally murdered on Wednesday, November 21, according to the Italian press. Lourença Adelaide Lima was stabbed twice in the face, suffered a blow to the head with a sharp object and was strangled by a 56-yearold Italian male named Vincenzo Vergata. Lima had been living in Milan for 20 years.
The suspected murderer has a history of drug use and was captured Friday by Italian police as he tried to hold up a supermarket, probably in order to obtain money to flee the country. The victim was found naked in Vergata’s home with a rope around her neck and six pieces of carefully cut fabric covering her intimate parts.
Italian forensic experts believe that Lima’s death was slow and that at certain moments the murderer observed the moribund victim without providing assistance. Authorities have called the murder sadistic.
Vincenzo Vergata is known in his neighborhood as “the drugee” and, according to neighbors, spoke very little. When he was arrested, he had an airplane ticket to Istanbul, Turkey in his possession.
