Recommendable video games

Introduction

I started playing video games since I was likely aged 2 or 3, and those were mostly children's video games, or Lego Chess.

When I was in kindergarten, I started playing games like Lego Racers, Lego Stunt Rally, Lego Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge, Pokémon Silver and such, and I also had a Nintendo 64 with games such as Super Mario 64 and Pokémon Stadium at that time.

I started gaming even more since 3rd grade, playing video games on my R4 such as Mario Party DS, Mario Kart DS, Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time, Yoshi Touch & Go, Diddy Kong Racing DS, etc. In the same period, I received a Nintendo Wii, on which I really enjoyed (and still enjoy!) the Mii Channel, Mario Kart Wii (especially when racing online!), and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. (Even though I wasn't aged 12 when I first started playing that. XD)

The platforms that I'm currently using are the PC, the New Nintendo 2DS, the Nintendo Wii U, the Nintendo GameCube, the Nintendo Switch, and sometimes even my DSi, the latter for games like Pokémon HeartGold or Super Scribblenauts.

Most of the games that I played back in my early teens are being played on my Wii U, via modding and homebrewing. It's a very convenient solution for your wallet! (But not always in the common situations. :P)

The retro gaming emulators that I use on my computer and phone are 100% virus-free, and I highly recommend them to you guys. Those are:

  • mGBA (it's better than VisualBoyAdvance, as it processes FPS quicker, and especially works perfectly if you want to play Pokémon)

  • ZSnes (occasionally a slightly older version for the sake of Super Mario RPG and its occasional tendency to freeze at certain points)

  • Nestopia

  • Homebrew, with Haxchi and Loadiine on the Wii U

  • MyBoy (the usually paid version is freely downloadable via Aptoide!)

  • Project64

  • PlayGuy

The 'usually paid' version of the GBA emulator named MyBoy is a more extended version than the free one: for example, you can use more cheat codes at the same time, in case you're an avid Pokémon fan who occasionally needs to use a cheat or two (or three, or uh... more ;p), and it even supports games that usually work with a gyroscope, such as Yoshi's Topsy Turvy/Universal Gravitation, and WarioWare: Twisted!, the latter of which being extremely rare and expensive nowadays.

I tested this emulator with the former game, and it works perfectly, so if you want to play one of those gyroscope games and save money at the same time, you should download this emulator on your phone or tablet (even though not all tablets have a built-in gyro sensor) via the link, as well as any ROM that you wish for, and then set your preferred settings, such as the screen layout, before playing. Please enjoy! :)

The 'more complicated' side of gaming ;p

I also occasionally play some hacks or patched stuff. In this case, a very notable example is Hallow's End (a Halloween themed EarthBound/Mother 2 hack, which is seriously better than Radiation's Halloween Hack).

The .rar file (you'll need WinRAR to extract them) contains some maps, so the usage of them will be more convenient.

If you would like to play this game by yourself, it's here, all patched and ready to download. Please enjoy! :)

What else do I do regarding 'more complicated' stuff? Well, I homebrewed both my main Wii U and its vWii ('regular' Wii function on the Wii U) using some tutorials by Jack Sorrell on YouTube. If you're curious about how that's done, feel free to click the links and try this for yourself.

I homebrewed my vWii for the sake of the .wad file of the nowadays very rare WiiWare of WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase (you can download it at the utmost bottom of this page, but only use it if you're in the PAL region, like me), as the Wii Shop Channel doesn't exist anymore, sadly. If you're curious about how to install such files on your (v)Wii, click here. (FYI, a regular Wii Remote is required for this, as I tried to do it with a Wii Remote Plus and it didn't work out well as it turned itself off for no reason in particular before I was even able to install the .wad file.)

One time, I did try to homebrew a 3DS with tutorials by the same YouTube user, but unfortunately, one small error caused the console to be bricked, leaving it unable to be fixed, partly caused by a screw that kept being stuck and refused to get out using any screwdriver. So I can give you the tip to please be careful when trying to homebrew anything in the way of a 3DS since this exact same risk may occur to you too, even if following the steps thoroughly.

If you guys have any other recommendations for video games for random peeps like me, or any other questions regarding gaming, homebrew and whatnot, feel free to send me a message on Hangouts.
