SPSS file data entry

An SPSS syntax program for creating a blank SPSS data file for you to fill in

At the link indicated we provide an SPSS syntax program that will create a blank SPSS data file into which you can enter the data for one of your CIFA versions. Save the program onto your disk with the name Make_spss.sps.

Note that the data file that is created is saved as an SPSS portable file (file type “por”). If you save your data file in this format it can be read in earlier versions of SPSS than those that are up to the minute.

To use the syntax program, do the following:

1. Open SPSS and then click File->Open->Syntax. Navigate to the syntax file and open it.

2. Run the syntax file: Run->All

3. Save one copy of the resulting file for each of the CIFA versions for which you will be entering data (e.g., HGW, WGH). Use a file name that indicates that this is a file of item data, that indicates the version code, and that indicates your project number (e.g., HGW001_items.por). Before you start entering data in each of these files, delete the first (blank) line of data, which was used in the process of creating the blank file for your use.
