Explanation of Identifying Codes in Columns 57 - 78

Coding of Column 57

This is the record (line) number indicator. You will enter a number from 1 to 4 depending on whether you are entering the first, second, third, or fourth line of data for a respondent. These record numbers will be used by the computer to check that all data lines for a given respondent/CIFA are in the correct sequence.

Coding of Columns 58-60

In these columns the letters CIF should be entered, to help distinguish CIFA item data from other files, should files accidentally be renamed.

Coding of Columns 61-63

Here should be entered the 3-digit project code for your research, as assigned by Drs. Werner and Green. If the project number starts with a zero, enter it as the first of the three digits.

Coding of Columns 64-66

Here should be entered the family ID number associated with the specific CIFA responses being entered.

Coding of Columns 67 - 71

In these columns are entered the numbers specifying the CIFA form code. Se the separate explanation of these codes.
