Data Entry Instructions for Computer Scoring

(182 item -- 4 point response format)

Entry of item data for 182 item CIFAs

SPSS file format

1. If you are creating more than one data file, these instructions will need to be followed for each data file. In that case, you should give each data file a distinctive name (e.g., WGHnnn.por, HGWnnn.por, where nnn is your CIFA project number).

2. We provide you with

a blank SPSS data file for data entry

and, alternatively,

an SPSS syntax program that will create a basic template for each of your SPSS data files. Run the syntax program and save a version of the “blank” file for each CIFA version that you will need to score.

3. Within each of your data files there will be one data line representing each set of 182 CIFA responses given by a respondent to describe one relationship, as well as identifying and background information. So there will be as many data lines as CIFA relationship descriptions in the file.

4. Within each of your data files, the data should be entered in accordance with the specifications on the prior and following pages:

a. Explanations of variables containing identification codes.

5. After you have entered your data and saved your file, run our SPSS syntax program for checking data entry.
