Explanation of Variables Containing Identification Codes

SPSS data file entry

You will need to enter information on the following identifying variables for all cases within any given SPSS data file.

Project = the 3-digit project code for your research, as assigned by Drs. Werner and Green. If the project number starts with a zero, enter it as the first of the three digits.

Family = the family ID number associated with the specific CIFA responses being entered (e.g., 001).

F1, F2 and F3 = the number specifying the three elements part of the CIFA form code. See the separate explanation of these codes.

Age = the respondent's age in years (blank = unknown). This is a numeric variable.

Educ = number of years of education completed by the respondent (blank = unknown). This is a numeric variable.

Sex1 = the respondent’s sex/gender (F = female; M = male). This is a string variable of 1 character, so you have the option of entering other codes that better reflect your research participants' demographics.

Ethnic = respondent's ethnicity (We use the following coding:1 = African American, 2 = Asian American, 3 = Latino, 4 = Native American, 5 = White, 6 = Other. This is a string variable of 1 character, so you have the option of entering other codes that better reflect your research participants' demographics).
