The University Writing Center (UWC) has several programs specifically for graduate students. Below, we’ve described each program and who would benefit most. Consider visiting the UWC!
Write Line is a virtual graduate writing group on Zoom that meets once a week for 2 ½ hours over 10 weeks. A facilitator begins each meeting with a writing tip and ends with a challenge to keep you writing throughout the week. Participants keep track of goals/accomplishments/next steps in a spreadsheet that everyone can access for accountability and reflecting on their writing pace. Registration is required and open until the end of September!
If you are struggling to maintain motivation in your dissertation or trying to start your program with healthy writing habits, this program is for you. https://writingcenter.tamu.edu/grads/write-line
During the interims, we host virtual graduate writing groups on Zoom that meet Monday-Thursday, from 9 AM-5 PM (3 times a year). Similar to Write Line, facilitators start each day with a writing tip, and participants put daily goals in chat in the morning and what they got done in the chat in the afternoon. In addition to group writing advice, participants meet with writing coaches daily to help work through issues and stay motivated. Now, the Dissertation & Thesis Office gives a presentation and stays to answer questions on the third day! Registration is required, and registration opens a month before each interim.
If you are starting or trying to finish a large project like a capstone, thesis, or dissertation, the writing retreat is for you. https://writingcenter.tamu.edu/grads/writing-retreats

In collaboration with GRAD Aggies, the UWC hosts online presentations about graduate writing and presenting at 4 pm on Wednesdays several times a year. This year, we have 5 presentations.
Because these presentations cover general skills and assignments you may encounter throughout graduate school, these workshops benefit any graduate student! https://writingcenter.tamu.edu/grads/graduate-student-workshops

On the first Friday of every month (unless there is a university holiday), we set up coffee, tea, and snacks in the Evan’s Grad Lounge (room 611) from 10 am-2 pm. This café is a space to work with other graduate students striving to meet their goals. Registration is not required.
If you need a block of time to complete writing to start the month off strong, this program is for you. https://writingcenter.tamu.edu/grads/writing-cafe

Even though we are a writing center, we also help with speaking needs! You can book a regular appointment at the writing center and specify a conversation appointment. You can come with your own supplies, or we can provide some for you. You'll talk with a writing center consultant for up to 45 minutes each session.
If you want to improve your conversational American English, this program is for you. https://writingcenter.tamu.edu/english-learners/english-conversation-appointments
