Welcome to the
Bush School Writing Resources

This site contains resources for helping TAMU Bush School students learn how to prepare writing assignments and other written materials for academic and workplace contexts. Bush School graduate students are expected to write clearly and professionally in multiple contexts (for example, course assignments, career materials, capstone projects, donor thank you letters, and much more); therefore, beyond the resources provided at this site, the Bush School Writing Program offers the following forms of assistance described below. Feel free to contact Cindy Raisor for more information regarding writing matters at the Bush School.

Capstone Writing Consultations

When you are ready to begin your capstone project the second year at the Bush School, we will help you at each stage of the writing process. Please see the Capstone tab at the top for more information and make an appointment with Ms. Raisor or Mrs. Kent for a capstone consultation.

Individual Writing Consultations
Students can meet with a writing consultant by appointment. For more information, follow the link above.

ePortfolio Project and the Medal of Excellence

Each Bush School student is strongly encouraged to prepare an ePortfolio, which documents what the student has learned through his or her degree program. Upon completion of an ePortfolio, a student gains the potential to earn a Medal of Excellence—an honor achieved by also fulfilling Leadership Certificate requirements. More than a showcase of writing samples, the ePortfolio prompts students to connect their learning across interdisciplinary experiences, such as participation in the Leadership Program, capstone courses, internships, etc., in light of the careers they are pursuing post- graduation. Students will be guided through the process of reflecting about their experiences while creating an ePortfolio and will be encouraged to target its development with their intended careers in mind. Students choosing to create an ePortfolio will have several opportunities to learn how to prepare one through workshops, online resources, and individual consultations with both the writing consultants and with their own advisors.

All Bush School students are invited to pursue the Medal of Excellence. Requirements for the Medal are listed in the Tracking Sheet. Students who satisfactorily complete these requirements will be awarded an engraved Bush School Medal of Excellence that will be worn at graduation.

ePortfolio Workshops spring 2024

Students working toward the Medal of Excellence must complete 4 workshops. These are offered in 2 different modalities: face-to-face workshops (times are listed below) or students may take the the BUSH 602 course (offered in the fall semester only), in which all of the workshops are covered. Workshops do not have to be completed in one semester. Please register for the workshops you plan to attend at 12twenty. All workshops are held in 1063 Allen from 12:20-1:20. The required workshops are as follows:

Part 1: Getting Started with your Bush School ePortfolio (Monday, January 22)

Part 2: Using the 5Ps to Plan and Prepare your Writing Projects (Monday, January 29)

Part 3: Writing Reflections for your Medal of Excellence Writing Projects (and Beyond) (Monday, February 5)

Part 4: Using AI Responsibly to Prepare your Medal of Excellence Writing Projects (Monday, February 12)

ePortfolio Timeline for 2024 Medal of Excellence*

In order to help students keep on track for completing the ePortfolio to meet the standards for writing and reflection we expect, students should work to meet the hard and soft deadlines listed below. The hard deadlines include the ePortfolio project proposal memo and competency map (due Feb. 9) and the sample reflection (due Feb. 23). The soft deadlines require you to complete one reflection per week and allow you to receive interim feedback on your work. You should meet with Mrs. Raisor or Mrs. Kent to discuss your progress during the semester you will graduate. Please follow the instructions on the reflection tracking sheet to submit work for feedback and approval.

Be prepared to revise your ePortfolio according to the feedback you receive and do so by the deadline requested. You may be required to revise more than once in order to bring your ePortfolio to the standards required for earning the Medal of Excellence. Therefore, completing your reflection drafts and submitting them in Word for feedback before including them in the ePortfolio will help you prepare a final "finished" ePortfolio product.

*EMPSA and other December graduates should contact Mrs. Raisor regarding deadlines.

Join our Bush School Medal of Excellence Facebook Group to participate in discussions about developing your ePortfolio and to receive important reminders regarding workshops (or modules) and submission deadlines.
