Coach Johanna Manduley
Coach Jo's father signed her up for swimming at the age of 11 in Fort Leavenworth, KS and she quickly fell in love with sport. After about a year of swimming in Kansas her father, a soldier in the US Army, was stationed to Germany, where she continued her swimming career until the age of 18. Jo swam for a number of German teams, as well as teams in the European Forces Swim League (EFSL). While in Europe, Jo devoted her time to improving her swimming technique and getting faster. She was invited to be a demonstrator for multiple EFSL Coaching Seminars where she helped teach coaches proper techniques and drills to improve their swimmer's stroke. After Europe, Jo swam until her second year at Mary Baldwin College, when their team was disbanded. Swimming has been a big part of her life and she can't wait to share her knowledge and love for the sport with future swimmers.
Coach Matt Quinney
Coach Matt is a former Belchertown Stingray and Belchertown High School’s first individual state champion. Matt has well over a decade of competitive swimming experience. After swimming with the Stingrays, he branched out into USA and YMCA leagues competing at regional and national meets; eventually moving on to collegiate swimming with Ithaca College. At Ithaca Matt majored in Physical Therapy and minored in Coaching, picking up coaching experience with the Swim Ithaca age-group team. Now Matt is back here in Belchertown transitioning to a new school and new major, but he is excited to continue coaching with his home town team. The Stingrays started Coach Matt’s swimming career, and he now hopes to help provide the same opportunities and experiences to our swimmers.
In Memory
Kristin Moyer (Head Coach April 2016 - April 2018)
Coach Kristin grew up swimming competitively with the Amherst Tritons Swim Team for 12 years and all 4 years at the University of Rochester where she also served as team captain for 2 years. After college, she started as assistant coach for her hometown team, the Tritons, and became the head coach there for a total of 4 years. Kristin was also head coach for the Summerville Family YMCA in South Carolina for 3 years and was happy to be back in Western Mass. Kristin's belief that the Stingrays and Belchertown could once again have a firm foundation in swimming led her to founding the US Swim option of the Stingrays. Their inaugural season in Winter 2017-18 was very successful and enjoyed thoroughly by the swimmers and Kristin.
While her sudden passing has left the team in sadness, we are fortunate to have had her as part of our Stingray Family and in our hearts forever.
