Label Numbers

From about the time of the First World War all British small arms ammunition packaging labels carried an identification number. For Land Service labels the numbers began with an "H" and were sequentially numbered through to the 1960s. Later "DATA" labels were used in the 1970s followed by labels with "L" numbers in the 1980s and subsequently.

In WW2 labels for ammunition packaged for the Royal Air Force carried an Air Inspection Department (AID) number.

Ammunition packaged for the Royal Navy carried labels with an "N" prefix.

Canada and India also used their own series of label numbers for some store.
