6.5mm Mannlicher
In 1916 Britain began supplying 6.5mm Ammunition to the Romanian government, manufactured under contract by Kings Norton Metals Company.
6.5mm Mark I
"Cartridge S.A, Ball 6.5mm Mark I" was approved to design IDW 3411 but was not shown in Lists of Changes.
The case was rimless and bottlenecked with a Berdan primer. The headstamp was either "KN 16" or "KN 17 6.5"
The bullet was round nosed with a cupro-nickel envelope and a lead core. Weight was 158 grains.
The propellant weight was about 34 grains of smokeless powder.
Muzzle velocity was about 2,440 fps
There are also contract rounds made by Birmingham Metals and Munitions Co., but it is unclear whether these are of WWI period or an earlier contract.
The rounds are in most respects similar to the Kings Norton contract cartridges except there is no headstamp and they are Cordite loaded..
