Recording Studio Information

Overview

A grant from the AB Cultural Council allowed the band to purchase recording equipment to support the band's virtual performance project. We'll be using the equipment to set up a recording studio in school for students to record their parts if they are having trouble or don't have the time to record at home.

Students recording at school will need to bring:

  • Instrument and music

  • A pair of wired headphones with a standard headphone connection (not a lightning or USB connection).

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and bell covers, depending on your instrument

    • See details below on PPE requirements.

30 minute time slots will be available for signup here:

Background

Both the Advanced Band and Beginning Band are working on creating virtual performances. We have recently received a grant from the Acton Boxborough Cultural Council to support these projects through the purchase of some recording equipment. We are now able to set up a recording studio at Blanchard to make it easier for students to record their video performances at Blanchard after school.

Students can sign up for a time slot and record their part. Mr. Garde will be handling the video and audio recordings, so the students only come in to play their instrument. They would not need to worry about uploading video files.

Recording Information

  • 35 minute recording time slots will be after school either in the music room or the gym. The time slot includes 5 minute setup and 30 minutes for recording. Students should not arrive before your time slot or stay in the building afterwards.

  • There will only be one student per slot. Mr. Garde will also be in the room to do the audio and video recording. Parents can optionally attend the recording session.

  • PPE information, following requirements of the AB Performing Arts Department

    • Masks must be worn, even while playing:

      • Brass players will use a disposable mask with a small cut in the mask to allow the mouthpiece to fit through. We will have disposable masks at the recording studio

      • Clarinet and saxophone players will also use a mask with a hole cut to allow the mouthpiece through. We will have disposable masks at the recording studio

      • Flute players will slide their head joint under the mask.

      • Percussionists will wear a mask.

    • Bell covers will be required for brass instruments, clarinets, and saxophones

      • For those that are good with crafts and sewing, there are several web pages and YouTube videos describing how to make a fitted bell cover.

      • An old t-shirt that can be cut up and held on with a rubber band will also work.

    • Here's a video of the University of North Texas Wind Orchestra playing with PPE.

  • Students must bring a pair of wired headphones. These can be earbuds or over the ear headphones.

  • If you have any questions, contact Mr. Garde (cgarde@comcast.net) or Mr. Baird.
