Below are short bios of our Private Lesson Instructors – a fabulously talented group of musicians.
Chris has been teaching at Blanchard since 1997. She received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State she performed and recorded with the concert band under the direction of Donald E. McGinnis. Chris has taught flute lessons to students in the Columbus area and worked part time at Stanton’s Sheet Music. Chris lives in Lancaster with her husband Al.
Tsuyoshi has been teaching at Blanchard since 2006. Tsuyoushi received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the Berklee College of Music, his Master of Music Degree and Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music and his doctor degree of musical art (DMA) from Boston University. He is a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer and has performed around the world in France, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Japan and the US. He has won numerous awards including 3rd prize in the International Chamber Music Competition, the Espoir award of the Osaka International Music Competition and the Longy School of Music Honor’s Competition. His repertoire extends from standard jazz and classical repertoire to virtuosic 20th century music. Above all Tsuyoshi enjoys teaching which he believes is the noblest profession.
Henry has been teaching at Blanchard since 2009. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Master of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. Henry also conducts the Woodwind Ensemble at Blanchard. In addition he teaches at the Indian Hill Music School and for the Instrumental Music School at Concord/Carlisle. An active freelancer he has performed with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Emmanuel Music, Boston Opera, Boston Ballet, Worcester Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic and at the Colonial Theater, North Shore Music Theater and Gardner Museum. Henry’s family, “The Tervo Trio” performs regularly in benefit programs for nursing homes and other philanthropic causes.
Al has been teaching at Blanchard since 2012. AI received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University in 1976 and his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Harvard University in 1991. While at Harvard Mr. Dentino won the Crite Prize for his research into artistic representations of ancient Greek musical instruments. As a clarinet major at Ohio State, Mr. Dentino studied with Dr. Robert Titus and played principal first clarinet under Dr. Donald McGinnis in the Ohio State Concert Band. He has recently retired from Concord-Carlisle Regional High School where he was Director of Bands for twenty years. During his tenure at Concord-Carlisle, Mr. Dentino took his band to Japan four times, earned 19 Gold Medal ratings at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association State Festival, and performed at Symphony Hall in Boston, Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, Mechanics Hall in Worcester, and Kitara Hall in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He is also the 2000 recipient of MICCA's Paul Smith Hall of Fame Award as Massachusetts' Conductor of the Year. Mr. Dentino, his wife, Chris, and their two children, Cory and Jackie, lived in Boxborough for twenty-one years. Cory and Jackie spent several wonderful years as students at Blanchard. In retirement, Mr. Dentino wishes to resume his private teaching career, adjudicate at MMEA, or possibly MICCA, festivals, play his clarinet more, and spend much more time on the family farm in Lancaster.
Chris has been teaching at Blanchard since 1992. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music where he was elected to Pi Kappa Lambda, a National Honorary Music Society, and a Master of Music Degree from the Yale School of Music. He is the 2014 recipient of Boxborough’s Spirit of Giving Award. He has been a judge for Massachusetts Music Educators Association Eastern Senior District Festival and presented a clinic on "Developing an Elementary Band", at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association 2017 Summer Institute. A former member of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, Chris is an active freelancer and has performed with many groups including the Boston Lyric Opera Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Plymouth Philharmonic, Indian Hill Symphony, Boston Brass, Cantabrigia Brass, Epic Brass, Emmanuel Music, Ice Capades, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Springfield Symphony accompanying such artists as Phyllis Curtin, Ronan Tynan, Dave Brubeck, Marvin Hamlisch, Shirley Jones and Chet Atkins.
Andrea has been teaching at Blanchard since 2001. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Masters in Special Education from Bay Path College. She has performed with the Lexington Bicentennial Band, numerous concert bands, marching bands and wind ensembles. She is also a Special Education teacher at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School.
