B&M CLASS C, D and E

CLASS C 4-6-0 TYPE

THERE WERE OVER TWO DOZEN "TEN-WHEELER" SUB-CLASSES ON THE B&M BUT THE MOGULS AND PACIFICS PROVED MORE USEFUL AND THE LAST B&M 4-6-0 WAS RETIRED IN 1937.

B&M 408 became C-3-a 1907. It was built by the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1887 as Boston & Lowell 187.

It was scrapped 1920.

C-5 1912 was built by Manchester in 1889 and scrapped in 1923. Photographed in Lowell in 1921.

C-6-a is shown as Boston & Lowell 175 "Pemberton". Built by Schenectady in 1886 and scrapped in 1916 as B&M 1926.

C-14 1983 was built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1891 as Fitchburg RR 239 and was scrapped 1916.

It was also FRR 260, 305 and B&M 1045. It is at Swanton, Vt. in September 1914.

C-15-a 2000 was built by the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1898 as Number 311 andscrapped 1929.

C-16-a 2035 is a compound built by Schenectady in 1898 and sold to the St.J&LC in 1930.

C-16-a 2050 was built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1900 as Number 418 and was scrapped 1936.

C-17 2060 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1900 as Number 436 and was scrapped 1927.

C-19-b 2074 built by Baldwin in 1898 as Fitchburg RR Number 5. Renumbered FRR 313 and B&M 1053.

C-20 2079 built by Baldwin in 1900 as 1060. Scrapped 1928. Photographed in Boston June 2, 1923.

C-21-a 2 became 2100. Built by Schenectady in 1904 and scrapped in 1935. Photographed new in 1904 at White River Jct.

C-21-a 2102 at old North Station in June 1916. Built by Schenectady in 1904 and scrapped in 1935.

C-21-a 2103 was built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1904 as Number 185. It was scrapped May 1937

C-21-d 2103 with a Haverhill to Boston express at the rubber shop at Fells by H.W.Pontin.

C-21-a 2104 was built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1904 as Number 346 and scrapped 1936.

C-21-d 2117 at Johnsonville, NY in June 1920. Built by Schenectady in 1905 and scrapped in 1936.

CLASS D FORNEY TYPE - Four Drivers

ONLY THREE OF THIS TYPE WERE STILL IN LIGHT PASSENGER TRAIN USE WHEN THE CLASS SYSTEM WAS ADOPTED IN 1911.

D-2 596 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1891 and scrapped in 1914.

It was originally Portland & Rochester RR Number 11 and B&M 49

Portland & Rochester was a sister to D-2 596 and became 597. It was scrapped in 1909.

471 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1891, became D-2 47 and was scrapped 1913.

D-2 48 had been 472 and sister to 471 above. Also built by Rhode Island in 1891. Scrapped in 1913.

CLASS E FORNEY TYPE - Six Drivers

ONLY SEVEN OF THIS TYPE WERE IN LIGHT PASSENGER TRAIN USE WHEN THE CLASS SYSTEM WAS ADOPTED IN 1911.

E-1-a 40 built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1895 as 158. Scrapped 1920.

176 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1895, became E-1-a 42 and was scrapped 1920.
