Children's Garden
The John C. Bock Community Garden has encouraged the growth of young gardeners since it began in 2010.
The Bock Children's Garden is open to both Bock Community Garden members and the Middleton Community. It is a fun place for children to learn including hands-on opportunities to experience nature and the cycle of life.
The goal of the garden is to foster children's appreciation and understanding of the environment. We also strive to inspire children, parents and teachers to learn about the importance of plants and how they affect the world.
The Bock Children's Garden provides motivation for both kids and adults to try fresh fruits and vegetables and instills love for our Earth in gardeners, both young and old.
Produce grown in the Children's Garden but not picked, is donated to the Middleton Outreach Ministries Food Pantry.
Check the Garden Committee roster to see who the current Children's Garden Coordinator is. Emails can be sent to bockgarden@gmail.com.
Please feel free to email them with any questions, suggestions and/or notes.
Tips For Gardening with Kids
Start small and let kids choose what to plant
Relax your standards; crooked rows are fine!
Transplanting is fun even if they play with plants in the same manner they play with their toys
Leave room for good old fashioned digging
Do behind-the-scenes maintenance; don't expect kids to do it all
Let kids express themselves by coloring signs and decorating the garden in their own way
Include a fun structure like a bean tipi
One of the best things that may grow is a gardener!
