HOMEWORK
To practice is the most important thing in choir. Without practice, perfect practice, we will not accomplish our full potential as a choir. It is important that each student reviews their part on a daily basis at home.
Audition Mixed/ Treble
Practice is a must.
Music and folders will be assigned. If music and/or folders are lost or damaged, you will be responsible for replacement.
Pass offs will be done randomly in class or on a video submission on the Google Classroom
0 - did not know the song and stopped somewhere before the end of the song because of lack of knowledge or confidence.
1- Made it through the song with extensive mistakes
2 - Made it through the song with minimul mistakes
3- Made it through the song with no mistakes
Beginning Choirs – Most practicing will be done in class. This is why everyday full participation is important. If you aren’t here, you can’t participate, and will lose participation points. If you choose not to give 100% you will also lose participation points.
Over our large breaks, (Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring) practice is also necessary. For the Advanced Choirs, new music is given out at the beginning of the break and students are expected to practice and come back with music learn through flipgrid videos.
How to practice - Full singing! Practice is not just listening or humming. You need to actually sing and use technique. Please be supportive of them doing this at home. In high school, I trust that in becoming a member of choir you want your choir to sound its best. Without at home practice we will not reach our potential. We are only as strong as our weakest link.
Performance Review - more information on this assignment to come.
PERFORMANCES and REHEARSALS
Concert and concert rehearsals and are MANDATORY. Failure to be at an after-school rehearsal means the student will not participate in the performance.
Choreography Rehearsals are usually all day from 8-5. These are mandatory rehearsals that require our paid choreographer to come. If you miss a rehearsal, you will be choreographed out and your grade will be lowered one half grade.
Parent Pick up – please be on time to pick up your students.
Absence form – If you know you will be absent from an event or rehearsal, please fill out the absence form and hand it directly to Mrs. Anaya. This form must be filled out at least 2 weeks (14 days) in advance and given to Mrs. Anaya by the parent only. Your dates are always given to you months in advance. Please stay on top of your personal calendars so we can know in advance what conflicts are. If an absence occurs without prior permission, a loss of one letter grade will occur. Jobs and ride issues are not valid excuses.
Phone usage in class - there will be NONE. If a phone is out, the student will be asked to to place it in the phone box on the piano. It will be given back at the end of the period.
We work all quarter for each performance and each member is a necessary part of the team to pull off the performances. It is CRITICAL that each member of the choir attend EVERY performance. The only acceptable reason to miss a performance would be verified illness or bereavement. Transportation, sports events, other rehearsals, or medical appointments are NOT considered excused absences. Mrs. Anaya reserves the sole right to determine whether an absence is excused or not. Students will lose 30-40% of their grade for missed concerts.
CONCERT DATES
Please see the calendar for the dates that have been scheduled for this year. These dates are subject to change as the school calendar is adjusted for the year. Also, other dates for advanced choirs will be added for caroling in the winter and festivals throughout the year. They will be added to the Google calendar online as they are added to our performance schedule. Please check the Google calendar frequently for updates. Remember that all concerts rehearsals and concert performances are mandatory. If you need to be excused from something, please remember the 2 week notice excusal form. Once last reminder – All concerts and rehearsals are MANDATORY – no exceptions. Please put these date on your calendars now and plan accordingly. Failure to attend concerts and rehearsals can severely affect your students’ grade!
