It is my intention to give each student an exciting and unforgettable experience in room G-125. I hope they meet new people, try new things, and grow into more mature young adults through their experiences in choir.
“Forte”…
…..is a non-audition Tenor/Bass group open to all grades. Students will be taught warm-up exercises, breathing techniques, how to match pitch, basic sight-singing skills, and singing simple harmony. We will sing a variety of musical styles, work on simple music theory, and focus on correct vocal production. In addition, they will be performing in different languages, and working on a cappella singing. This choir will perform in the Fall, Winter and Spring concerts (2), as well as other festivals and events throughout the year. My hope is that some of these students will become the student leaders of next year’s choral program in the Advanced Mixed Choir.
VDC “Voix du Ciel” …
…..is an all-treble (Soprano/Alto), beginning chorus open to all grade levels. Sign ups with counselors at the end of every school year. Students will develop their vocal technique, focus on complex part singing and more a cappella singing, while concentrating on pure vowel form and placement. Sight- reading and music theory are a huge portion of this course. We will sing a variety of musical styles and work on music theory and sight-singing. This choir will perform in the Fall, Winter and Spring concerts (2), as well as other festivals and events throughout the year. My hope is that some of these students will become the student leaders of next year’s choral program in the Auditioned Women and Auditioned Mixed Choir.
VE “Voix Enchantee”.…
…..is an treble, audition only, advanced chorus open to 9th-12th graders only. Auditions are held at the end of the previous school year, and open spots will be filled at the beginning of the school through a second round of auditions if need be. Students will continue developing their vocal technique, focusing on more complex part singing and more a cappella singing, while concentrating on pure vowel form and placement. We will sing a variety of musical styles and work on music theory and sight-singing. This choir will perform in the Fall, Winter and Spring concerts (2), as well as many other festivals and competitions throughout the year. These members are part of an elite group who are expected to lead by example in their actions and musicality for all other choirs. This ensemble is also known as Descant Get Enough when we transition to show choir season during 4th quarter.
LDC – “Lumiere de Chanson”..…
…..is an audition only, mixed, advanced chorus open to all upperclassmen only. Auditions are held at the end of the previous school year, and open spots will be filled at the beginning of the school through a second round of auditions if need be. Students will continue developing their vocal technique, focusing on more complex part singing and more a cappella singing, while concentrating on pure vowel form and placement. We will sing a variety of musical styles and work on music theory and sight-singing. This choir will perform in the Fall, Winter and Spring concerts (2), as well as many other festivals and competitions throughout the year. These members are part of an elite group who are expected to lead by example in their actions and musicality for all other choirs. This ensemble is also known as Vitamin C when we transition to show choir season during 4th quarter.
All Choruses…
…..will enjoy learning about and experiencing my passion, music! We’ll learn a bit of its history and development, highlight a few of the pioneers, and enjoy seeing some of the great Musical Theatre productions. Our concerts will be balanced with choral classics, contemporary pop and Broadway and our spring concert will be all Show Choir! We also reserve the last portion of the year to work on solo singing.
