DOG BREEDING PROGESTERONE LEVELS

I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING:

There is no specific time of day that the blood sample needs to be collected – your dog should be tested on day 8 – 10 of showing signs of being in season. The reference range used by idexx is below:

Please remember these are from the day the sample was taken not the day the sample arrived at the reference laboratory.

To convert nmol/lL to ngm/mL divide by 3.18

3 nmol/L = 0.94 ngm/mL

15 nmol/L = 4.72 ngm/mL

15.9 nmol/L = 5 ngm/mL

16.54 nmol/L = 5.2 ngm/mL

30 nmol/L = 9.43 ngm/mL

31.8 nmol/L = 10 ngm/mL

60 nmol/L = 18.87 ngm/mL

ONE DAY is 24 hours from when the blood was drawn, not one calendar day.

IN "Biology of Reproduction of the Dog and Modern Reproductive Technology", BY Catharina Linde-Forsberg ,

SHE POINTS OUT THAT DAILY PROGESTERONE LEVELS MAY FLUCTUATE 20 TO 40 % IN A NON DIURNAL PATTERN AND THAT THIS SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND WHEN DETERMINING OVULATION TIMING. THIS OCCURS WITH BOTH HIGHLY SENSITIVE PROGESTERONE LAB TESTS (RIA, EIA).
