Jamie
I had the 360 fundo performed back in April 2013. I've been back running on several Saturday morning park runs - see my scary picture, I'm very competitive. Also I've taken up kayaking which I found was very easy and last Friday did a boxercise session - however I did suffer slightly but this was from scar tissue. After the operation I just got on with things and found I was not in too much pain - mostly was from the 5 holes made for the laparoscopy.
I took it easy at first, small meals etc, but I quickly found I could eat most foods as long as carefully chewed.
Now I some 14 weeks since the operation I am eating full meals again (but very slowly and carefully). I had a few cases where I developed abdominal cramps and suffered some occurrences of dumping. I find that I can burp, but strangely lately is a kind sulphur smell - and also accompanied by some bouts of diarrhoea in the mornings. I wonder if this is just food related - I googled and found could be due to Helicobacter pylori bacteria or Giardia?
Also I have since started losing weight again - in total 5kgs now; after the operation I dropped only 2.5 kgs and I thought that was all. Otherwise, I feel fit and well and running / breathing is much easier now the hiatus has been repaired.
After stopping the lansoprazole I think I do experience flash backs of reflux - I feel a slight burn in my throat although this occurs on way down when swallowing food. I do not get the intense pain or taste of acid after meals and I can sleep well at night and not waking up choking.
Jamie Kelly sent me for a Barium Xray, this revealed a very normal result. The Radiologist said he was struggling to find anything wrong - my Oesophageal wave and LES function was very good.
