The current strategy to try and catch it early is to attempt to detect the early dysplastic changes in the cells by performing endoscopy every 2 years.
2-years was derived from mathematical models as the optimum period to undertake gastroscopy. In some countries it is 3-years.
If low grade-dysplasia develops then the frequency of interval shortens to every 6-months, or sometimes shorter/longer dependent on your case.
If high grade-dysplasia develops then treatment is undertaken and I will cover this later.

N.B. Since this talk was delivered, the guidelines have been amended and for those with short length metaplasia (<3 cm) the interval between scopes may be between 3 and 5 years.
