Above are the photos of my N-scale light-rail trains & trolleys, some of which are of Japanese origin because I like to have a mixture of the older & newer trains. For those of you who are familiar with the older real & model trolleys, you'll see that I also have a Brill trolley & a PCC trolley as part of my model train rolling stock. The layout that they are photographed on is a 50"x28" size N-scale board with the simulated green "grass" that I'm working on for my father, Henry Mitchell Jr. That has since progressed to more installed track since this photo was taken & will be featured on my father's model railroad website.

The large gray-colored 24"X48" size layout board photo above that's dated 04/04/2013, with what looks like gray-colored figure-8 style model racing car tracks, are actually Kato's new N-scale light-rail train tracks under their UNITRAM series & is one of their most detailed modeled train projects to-date - http://www.katousa.com/N/Unitrack/UNITRAM.html.

After using the standard cork roadbed for years & having it deteriorate over time due to exposure to air, I decided to no longer use that for any future model train layouts. You also have to measure & cut sections of it at a time to match the straight & curved tracks of the layout, then you have to nail or staple it in place. A lot of work that has to be re-done over time because of deterioration.

I decided to paint the wooden layout board a gray color to match the gray-colored Kato plastic light-rail tracks. The paint also helps to seal the top of the layout board from moisture, etc. The UNITRAM light rail trains by Kato are expensive ($100.00 per 2-car set & up) but are worth it because they are very quiet & highly detailed. I prefer to have a good rolling stock mixture of the newer light rail trolleys & the older Brill & PCC style trolleys since there are still some actual real Brill & PCC trolleys that have been fully restored & are running in various parts of the USA in full service as part of a real transit system. Check out these photos of various UNITRAM track layout configurations - https://www.google.com/search?q=kato+unitram+tracks&client=firefox-a&hs=mQI&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=fflb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=JeunUrizCajksATUy4HoDA&ved=0CEgQsAQ&biw=991&bih=601

The three bottom photos taken on 07/13/2013 is my small size 24" x 24" N-scale layout that I call my test track layout because it was originally intended to be a simple testing area for any N-scale light-rail trains & trolleys that I buy since I need to see if they'll run smoothly on the Kato UNITRAM track. As you can see, the layout is still under construction but the trains do run on it. I found out that the Bachmann Brill & PCC N-scale trolleys with the white-color gears in their "trucks" have a design problem & won't allow the trains to run on the UNITRAM tracks, but the same trains that have the black-colored gears run very smoothly on the UNITRAM tracks to which I can testify because I have some with the white-color gears & tried one of the black-color gear units that I bought for my father & those do run smoothly.

Here are some photos & videos of my layouts on FLICKR - https://www.flickr.com/photos/42036725@N04/sets/

I was enough lucky to be able to display one of my N-scale model trolley layouts in the MTA's Christmas Train Garden inside of the Mondawmin Mall subway station here in Baltimore MD on 12/06/2014. I call the layout THE DOWNTOWN LOOP. You can see some photos of the layout on my FLICKR website above. Mr James Peyton, the MTA's former Deputy Director of Subway (Metro) Operations was nice enough to let me be part of their event. If you can get the link to work, here's WBAL TV Channel 11 Baltimore's 29 second newscast that they did on the event - http://www.wbaltv.com/news/santa-mrs-claus-visit-mta-train-garden/30118164. It may take a few seconds or minutes to upload & you may have to click on the software PLAY Button to start the video which is sub-titled as "Santa and Mrs. Claus visit the MTA train garden on display at the Mondawmin subway station".

=====================================================================================================

02/05/2013 - I have decided to call one of my layouts "Downtown Loop" (Layout Board #2 - 24" x 24" size). I started working on this as of 02/05/2013 & to-date, it's my first layout that uses a combination of the Kato-brand of UNITRACK, UNITRAM light rail tracks & ATLAS tracks on the same layout.

08/13/2013 - I have decided until further notice to use the fictitious title of "Baltimore Rapid Transit Administration (BRTA)" as the roadname for my model light-rail/trolley railroad's company name.

08/17/2013 - I decided to use Kato's V5 N-scale layout set on my next train layout construction project board which measures 24" x 48".

08/25/2013 - Started construction on the 24" x 48" layout project board.

09/21/2013 - I found the diagram that I created on 07/30/1990 for a multi-terminal N-scale layout that I had forgotten about. Maybe one day I'll decide to bring the diagram to life by building the actual layout.

09/23/2013 - I have decided to call one of my layouts "The Ashton Heights District" (Layout Board #1). As I recall, I originally started on this layout board when I was stationed in The Philippines in the early 1990's where I had that particular layout board custom-made.

12/13/2013 - The photos on the bottom row that were taken on 12/03/2013 are of my latest layout project (layout #3), which I call "Bremerton Yards". I started working on this project on 08/25/2013 & it's still under construction. It's my largest layout construction project to-date.

07/28/2014 - I have decided to add the fictitious road names of Baltimore & Wabash RailRoad (B&W RR) and Wabash Avenue Traction Company as two of the company names that I'll use for my layouts.
