Borrowing Privileges:
Books and CDs = two weeks
DVDs = one week
Reference, Past issue Magazines, Equipment = overnight
Check out Policy:
A replacement fee will be charged if materials are lost or damaged.
Students are allowed to check out up to 8 items at one time.
Maximum check-out time for books is two weeks (this due date will be noted on the student’s library account online), but students are encouraged to return books as soon as they are finished with them.
Books may be renewed if there are no holds on them from other student/staff. Contact library staff for renewals.
Borrowers should not lend materials to others, as they will be responsible for payment if they are lost or damaged.
Failure to return or replace an item to the library constitutes theft.
7:30 am to 3:30 pm when school is in session.
Students are welcome to use the LMC before and after school with no pass required.
All other times, students must have a pass from a teacher to come to the LMC.
Passes/Class Visits
Passes will be required to the LMC during regular school hours. There are four ways to use the Ballard High School Library Media Center:
1. Ballard Staff may reserve the library for research.
2. Students may use a RED 15-minute browsing pass from any teacher.
3. Students may use a BLUE Computer Lab Research Pass from any teacher.
4. Students may use the LMC before or after school with no pass required.
LMC Behavior Rules
● Talking should be kept to a minimum to allow everyone to get their work and reading accomplished. The upper level will be a “minimum-noise” area and the lower level will be “quiet-voices” area.
● All electronic devices must be silenced during your visit to the LMC. IPODS with ear buds may be used if the sounds are not audible to those around you.
● Students using the LMC must be respectful of other students’ right to work in a quiet and orderly environment.
● Come prepared to work.
● No gum, candy, food, or drink allowed in the LMC. Exceptions may be made by LMC staff (ex: book club meetings or special events).
● Clean up after yourself. Put library books on the tables so the LMC staff can put them away in the proper location.
● Tuck in chairs and throw away your garbage. Other people deserve a neat place to work.
General Guidelines for use of Computers in the Library Media Center
● You are expected to follow the “Computer Use Policy” established by the school district. In general, the use of email, bulletin boards, chat-rooms, games, and game-related sites is NOT ALLOWED during school hours. If you have any concern regarding computer use or whether or not a site is considered appropriate for school use, please check with Mrs. Dovre or a library assistant.
● Do not tamper with, remove, or install software on the computers.
● Treat the computer equipment with respect. Do not tamper with the mouse, cables, or any of the peripheral devices.
● Be responsible for your own work and behavior.
● Adhere to copyright laws and use proper citation.
● If you need to print something, please be respectful and only print what is needed. No unnecessary printing, please.
VIOLATIONS OF USAGE POLICIES: Library staff reserves the right to refuse use of the library and library materials without notice if guidelines are not followed.
