We have chosen to keep as much of the original natural foliage as possible on our property and maintain a natural Texas coastal landscape which we personally really enjoy. Our waterfront is one of the only natural beaches remaining along Neubauer Point Road with a natural bluff and small beach. The grass in the yard is the natural wild grass that grows in this area and there is no watering system. We cut the grass as usual but there is no "carpet grass" effect and dry seasons often cause dry areas in the yard. All the plants and trees in the yard have grown up there wild, and we have trimmed them to look nice. We have also kept a natural brush "hedge" on the eastern side as a windbreak (for the onshore winds from the east/southeast) and as a place to attract birds. As a result, there are cactus, yuccas, mesquites, cat-claw, huisache, etc in our yard. Remember, all these natural plants have thorns, so walking around barefoot is not really an option!
In addition, there is a 350 acre ranch directly across our road (in front of our house) where no hunting is allowed. This means that deer, javelina, coyotes, raccoons, bobcats, etc roam freely on the ranch and they might be seen from time to time if you are observant.
We are animal lovers ourselves, but we are also very careful regarding the use of our home.
Cats: We do NOT allow cats in our home. We have found that their claws simply do too much damage to our furniture.
Dogs: we DO allow dogs. If you would like to bring your dog along with you, we ask that you contact us specifically about this so that we know you have a dog with you.
We want to make sure any dogs that our guests bring are well-controlled and housebroken. Dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms or loft, and not allowed on the couch, the chairs or on any furniture. So guests with a dog will need to bring along a comfortable dog-bed or mat for the floor. If your dog cannot resist hopping up onto the couch or easy-chair then he/she may need to be on a leash even inside the house. (The other option is to bring your own blankets to completely cover the large couch and easy-chair). Dogs may not be washed in the shower, but must be washed outside using the water hose. Dogs who are wet from swimming in the bay, or wet from a recent wash must be kept outside until they are dry before coming inside. (We also own a dog... so we know how this works!)
Dogs should NOT roam freely OUTSIDE the boundaries of our yard property. You should NOT allow them to roam freely on our neighbors' yards. If you can control them by command, they are welcome to roam freely on our yard property. If not, then they will need to be on a leash. Also, there may be some "grass burrs" in the yard which can get stuck in their paws... just be attentive to this.
We personally use our beach for swimming and sun-bathing. However, it is important to note that this is prime fishing water but not great swimming water. The Bay is very shallow, has a high salt content, the bottom is silty and sometimes rocky, and an occasional fishing lure might be lying around. If you choose to take a dip in the Bay it is important that "swimming shoes" be worn at all times.
Rental is recommended for adults and older children who know how to swim due to proximity to the waterfront. The house is right on the beach and small children must be supervised at all times. Parents (or guardians) must assume all responsibility and liability for any accompanying children.
High-speed fiber: Our home has high-speed fiber internet installed. Our current IP subscription provides 300 megabits/sec download and 300 megabits/sec upload. These speeds are more than adequate for watching movies online, video calling, hosting online video conferences, and most other internet needs. (If necessary, larger plans are available from our local IP provider up to 1000/1000 megabits)
Cell phone coverage: There is a cell tower visible from our home which provides good (1-3 bars) coverage for AT&T telephone plans, and possibly other providers who use the same cell network. If you have another provider than AT&T we cannot guarantee that you will have good cell coverage.
One main idea with our house is to get away from the hustle and bustle of "civilisation", so we do NOT have cable TV service or satellite service. However, there is a 40 inch flat-screen TV which we personally use with our Apple TV unit connecting through WiFi (internet). We encourage our guests to bring their own Apple TV unit, and/or Google/Chromecast unit to use with the TV. (It is also a good idea to bring your own HDMI cable) You can simply log in with your own Apple or Google ID and rent/watch movies, TV shows, news and sports just as you do at home. Our internet service is more than adequate for streaming.
A small digital antennae is also available IF you want to watch the local channels in the Corpus Christi area. These channels are very limited and we cannot guarantee perfect reception, but they are viewable.
