If you get a hankerin’ for the city, then Corpus Christi is approx a one hour drive north from the home. There you can find great restaurants and shopping along South Padre Island Drive (SPID) and Shoreline Drive (downtown).
If you want to enjoy some very nice sandy beaches, then Padre Island National Seashore is about a 20 minute drive outside Corpus Christi.
The cities of San Antonio and Austin are about 3 hours away from our cabin. San Antonio with its famous River Walk (seen in the photo above), the Alamo, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, and more is one of our favorite places to visit for a nice weekend away. Austin is one of the "music capitals" of the USA and is a great place to visit.
We enjoy a lunch or an afternoon in Gruene, a famous historic town just northeast of San Antonio. Gruene has some great old style restaurants such as "the Gristmill", and many idyllic country shops. The worlds largest waterpark, Schlitterbahn, is very near Gruene in the town of New Braunfels.
The Guadalupe river, which runs through Gruene, is a favorite spot for "lazy" tubing during warm days, or if you want to do something even more "lazy" you can just have a picnic beside the river
Port Isabel on South Padre Island, a famous vacation beach paradise for “snow birds” is about 2 hours to the south near the Mexican border. A visit to Mexico is also about a 2 hour drive to the south.
