The Atlanta Street Hockey Club plays informal ball hockey games inside Atlanta's perimeter. No skates, sometimes goalies. Players are welcome to join anytime. It's free, there are no fees. We currently play Sunday mornings "Church Hockey" (Western Conference Style) and Wednesday evenings "Under the Lights" (Eastern Conference Style) at Walker Park in Atlanta, Georgia (Kirkwood/Edgewood border). We are not associated with MASHA, but those guys are way cool. Click here to learn more about MASHA.
The pick up game started some time in the mid 90s with a bunch of musicians looking for something to do. They played with broom sticks, golf clubs, and tennis balls. Over time our game has evolved. Boards have been added and replaced, and replaced again. In 2022 an opportunity presented itself to start playing with Goalies and full sized (ish) nets. A few goalies have found there home in between the pipes and have been blocking shots ever since. A group of ASH players joined the National Ball Hockey League in 2024 led by Team Captain Dustin Edmonds. They are playing in Georgia's inaugural season this year and are looking forward to future opportunities to show off their ASH's. For more information about Georgia's Tier 3 Division, click here.
We have a diverse player base that has and continues to grow. We are all inclusive and have men and women with the occasional teenagers to join us as well. Sometimes we're not sure what gender, age or affiliation our people represent, and they play too. There is one original member who graces us with his presence and the occasional alum who hops in for a spell. We have players of Egyptian heritage who lived in Canada and American players who learned to play in Egypt from Canadians. Folks travel from all over the US and Canada to play with us. We have Arabs, Jews, Christians, Canadians, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, hipsters and pretty-boys come play. We all get along......mostly.
Our game has migrated from make shift courts in Grant Park to a long-standing run at Bessie Branham Park. We moved to Walker Park in 2017 (don't get us started on the Center of Hope Grant that kicked us off our home court at Bessie) where we collaborated with Atlanta Bike Polo to install boards all around the court. We have a fancy, interactive score board that helps us keep track of goals and games. Typically someone brings celebratory BEvERageS for some post game hazing and cheer. We reminisce about the good 'ol days, talk trash about how poorly someone played and once in a while we fire up the grill for some pita wrapped hot dogs and spicy mustard. We'll eat and drink just about anything except IPAs. Those are terrible. Our preferences in order:
PBR
Miller High Life - the Champagne of Beers
Genesee
Genesee Cream Ale
Pretty much anything else
