What did you find most interesting about Georg Daniel Flohr?
“I loved the touch of his work and his marks. I was interested in his handwriting and the feel of history and a long gone era. I liked the stains and marks of time on the pages. I was interested in how Georg Daniel was responding to everything he saw, either with words or images.”
How does this project relate to your studio practice?
“I immediately started to copy Georg Daniels handwriting and did this daily for weeks, with a sepia coloured pen. I planned a trip to France and painted there with the intention of responding to place. I marinated myself in thoughts about Georg Daniel and allowed myself to paint and draw whatever felt right. The handwriting became a constant flow in the work. The words I wrote were stream-of-consciousness. For five weeks in Brittany Georg Daniel was my muse.”
