“Gifts from the Sea”

Cyanotype, ink painting and clay beads with black sand from

 Cape Cod Beaches - 2024

As species disappear and people compete for limited resources on our planet we are reminded of our continuing impact on the earth.  Our sense of entitlement has led to wars, slavery and exploitation of the environment.  Our ambitious growth has caused great harm to humanity and has pitted peoples against each other.  I am but one small voice channeling the forces of nature, it is something I can control and at once something beyond me.  Art exists in a space between our mind and what surrounds us.  I choose to work in methods I cannot completely control and I enjoy the happenings of chance.

Wet Cyanotype:  Alternative photography method

Water and sun in combination with other natural materials is a fluid ever moving process to create images, for that very reason it channels the energy from the elements by intervening with human control.

Sara David Ringler is a printmaker, painter, photographer and book artist whose work reflects her connections to the elements and her environment.  Working in various printmaking techniques, she explores process and chance occurrence.  The randomness or accidents of life and the precarious nature of events is a source for her to explore.  Her passion for making art fuels her career as a full-time professor of art at Cape Cod Community College where she teaches Drawing, Design and Printmaking.  “I am enriched in my life by the constant search for new forms of expression.”
