Monotype
This piece is a monotype print, deconstructed and interwoven to evoke my experiences on me spent along the banks of the Charles River. The Charles is sometimes known as “the people’s river,” it defines the city of Boston and is a perennial source of beauty and solace.
Where in many riverfront cities, the river is a vehicle for commerce and industry, the Charles remains as escape from all that, a readily accessible place for recreation and enjoyment.
This, I believe, is also true of the Rhine River in Strasbourg.
The Charles River has a checkered history. While today it is considered swimmable, in the past it was polluted particularly by slaughtering of cattle for meet during the civil war. The parklands along its shores were neglected.
It is a present-day success story that the river has been restored.
artist, college design instructor, and curator. Her art prac ce is based primarily on personal narrative and its connections to larger issues.
Fragments of drawing, monoprint, collage, encaustic, found materials and bits of text all figure heavily as story-telling vehicles.
Ronni especially loves artist’s books because they have an inside and an outside; things may appear one way on the exterior and open to reveal something quite different and surprising.
In addition to artmaking and teaching, Ronni has two badly-behaved (though handsome) cats and is training to run the Boston Marathon.
