I am a visual artist and musician and I also sell and curate historic fine art.
I come from a family of artists and musicians and thats where my journey began. I was inspired by them to create art and music. I attended California College of the Arts, where eventually I was introduced to the idea of teaching art and music, which led me to pursue a teaching credential and Masters in Education at Mills College.
I have been a teacher, a canvaser, a merchant, a landlord, lyft and Uber driver, doordasher, and even for a brief period in my teens, a cook at a fast food restaurant.
It takes a lot of faith and belief that you can handle the challenges that might come your way. Some times as an artist, financial stability can be challenging. Stay well organized and detail oriented so that you can create systems that will help you stabilize desired outcomes and think about opportunities in a way that leads to financial success. Simplify you're paths to salary down to the easiest and least all consuming pathways and don't over commit, because when you find whats working, you have to really focus on locking that in. Too many commitments can become a distraction to your actual mission. Stay as true to the actual mission as possible, and when finances don't allow you to be all in on your actual leading passion, find jobs that in one way or another, even if subtly, sharpen a skill that tie back to your true purpose. All things that come your way will tie back to your true purpose ultimately but it's up to you to recognize how. When I did Uber, I never would have thought it would help me make the necessary connections to help get me where I am today! But it did! This is how life can work, when you look at it from the perspective of, 'no matter what comes my way or challenges I face, the universe is always working in my favor.'
Keep a positive attitude. Stay realistic but it's important to be an optimist. Positivity will help you attract what you want. When things don't go your way, know that that thing was not meant for you and there is something better and more fitting on the way.
Your local museum, recording studio, music shop, concert venue, etc. Visit often. Try to know people that are already holding positions in the places you want to see yourself. Carry yourself like a diplomat everywhere you go and make friends and connections with people that can help you grow.
