The Cavaliers
I played with The Cavaliers during my Sophomore year at J.E.B. Stuart High School, 1961-62.
The band was an offshoot of the marching/concert bands and was lead by Morris Dubin, the school's band director,
I made my first professional music money ($13.00) on December 21, 1961 playing for a school dance in the cafeteria, where this picture was taken. I still have the set list from this performance.
I am sitting at the piano with band leader Morris Dubin behind me. Sax player Tom Wishing is sitting second from the left in the first row. A few years before, Tom and I had jammed at his house, which you can hear on this page.
This is the set list from the one and only gig I played with the Cavaliers, on December 23, 1961. I made exactly $13.00, which would be $94.21 in 2010 dollars.
