What does it mean to be a DECA Advisor? Need a Timeline? Here is a short synopsis:
What do I need to do? You need to do everything. It may seem overwhelming, but it is. It really is. You have embarked on a great adventure in organization, frustration, skill, feeling of being lost, lack of test knowledge, fear of making a mistake, calling Mike for help, reaching out to other advisers for help because Mike didn't answer your email, working with your students to get them ready for a competition that you don't know anything about, getting approval from your ASB leader to go to the conference, getting a bus for your students, calming your students down when they are afraid of competing, listening for your students' names to be called to the stage, not hearing your students names and consoling them, hearing your student name to go on stage and watch their excitement, having them thank you(once in a while), riding home on the bus and listening to the students talk about the conference, have parents thank you, going home and being so ramped up and upset at the same time, and going to sleep realizing that you will do it again, and again, and again, feeling that you have given an opportunity to your students that they will never forget and you love your job as a Marketing Teacher! Good luck, you can do all of this and more.
