Summer Assignment

Welcome to AP US History!

This sheet is to inform you about your summer assignments. We have summer assignments to prepare and dive into our curriculum when school begins because we start almost a month later than most schools and the AP exam is the same for everyone.

Over the summer, you will need to complete the tasks listed below.

If you should have questions about assignments, any problems, or concerns, please feel free to email us at eshsapush@gmail.com and we will respond as quickly as possible. You can check the website mrsdavlantis.com for updates, this handout, and other information. We are looking forward to getting to know each of you and to embark on a study of our nation’s history together. We love US History and we hope that will rub off on each of you this year! Good luck, have fun, make good choices, and we’ll see you in the fall!

Mrs. Davlantis & Mr. Ito

Tasks:

    • Check out an AP US History textbook (it’s brown and called The American Pageant) from the library.
    • Read and outline (in your own words!) the first five chapters. Outline/notes on your reading are due the first day of school. You will have a Multiple choice quiz the first day of class.
    • Read the first chapter of Howard Zinn’s, A People’s History of the United States. You can check this out from the library or purchase it yourself. Essays will be done in class on second day of school. (Disclaimer: This is a somewhat liberal text and will be countered with conservative reading from A History of the American People and America: The Last Best Hope.
    • Complete the reading questions for each chapter. Your responses should be typed and emailed to me no later than August 25. You will send it to eshsapush@gmail.com. In the subject line of the email, include your last name (i.e. Subject: Ito). Please send your responses to the questions in the body of the email, not as an attachment. Remember, plagiarism is not allowed and will be grounds for dismissal from the AP program.
