Membership is open to any person who is , or has been, employed in either a paid or voluntary capacity in a position of Pastoral Ministry Leadership.
Members might be current or former Pastoral Associates, Pastoral Workers, Chaplains, Pastoral Carers, spiritual support persons, parish liturgists, sacramental coordinators, or any other such ministers, whether accredited or not. Their work might be in parishes, schools, hospitals, prisons, aged care facilities, hospices, social and emergency services, or other such organisations.
Members do not necessarily work for Catholic organisation, but are committed to the vision, mission and purpose of the Association.
The objectives of the Association are:
to be a source of support, encouragement and challenge for one another
to provide opportunities for members for sharing of pastoral concerns
to become a forum for communication among members
to continue to find ways to strengthen the identity, role and status of Pastoral Ministry Leaders
to build relationships between the Association and other bodies
to find ways to engage beyond the Association on matters of our time.
The Association provides support to members by way of networking opportunities, ongoing communication, and personal support -
Our group email enables members to receive and share news and notice of events, articles and other useful information. Members can seek help and advice from others, and share resources and ideas.
At gatherings members can meet others, discuss relevant issues, socialise and ‘talk shop’, and maybe hear a guest speaker or member presentation.
Small local happenings can be opportunities to offer or seek support and get too know others in your area.

The APMLM is a collaborative body that recognises that we all have gifts, and when those gifts are released for the good of the whole then we are reflecting the beauty of the Body of Christ.
Four to six people, including a Convenor, a Minute Secretary and a Treasurer, form a Leadership Team that oversees the core functions of the Association.
While some association events or gatherings will be organised by the Leadership Team, any member can take the initiative to suggest or organise something. Examples of the latter are small local get-togethers, lunchtime meet-ups, group attendance at a PD event, or offers of help and support to other members.
