The Sacred Container

This cedar bark basket is a practical treasure, reflecting the native Coast Salish tradition of the Pacific Northwest. I enjoyed making it; I worked with the materials as if they were a part of my body and mind. I harvested the raw cedar bark from the tree, cut it into strips, soaked it, and assembled my materials, taking instruction from an elder Lummi basket maker. As I worked it gathered to itself a certain shape and character and was born, a new being.

The basket is imperfect and real in the same way our being is. It is also a living being,  gathered from bits of the world soul, the anima mundi. We are fragile, alive, and peculiarly unique. Our consciousness is a derivative of the psyche; a biopsychic phenomenon: it is of the body (soma), mind, and the earth's biosphere. Carl Jung wrote that spirit is the "within" of things, the soul of earthly matter. It is what matters. It is radical gift that we are here, for a short time, holding the tension between ground and sky, life and death, being and doing, ego and Self, struggle and ease. We are sacred containers for life.

I look forward to accompanying your inner exploration into new territories of the imagination, and discerning right alignment as you navigate everyday consciousness. As a seasoned leadership consultant and trained depth psychology advisor with 20+ years of experience in teaching, Jungian dream work, Deep Imagery guided visualization, client mentoring, ritual and nature-based soul inquiry, I offer you a safe, nurturing container to build trust and new capacities for inner and outer relationship as we transform old patterns into new vitality for life.
