Föhr [or Foehr] is a north Frisian Island situated on the west coast of the old duchy of Schleswig, about 20 km south of the German-Danish border. The island covers an area of 82 sq.km, and has approximately 10,000 inhabitants.

(Westland Publications, 1983). [FHL 973 W2smn no. 17]. This list was transcribed and translated by Smith and was gleaned from the Hamburg ship lists in the Staatsarchiv Hamburg by Ursel Alander . "Die Auswanderung von der Insel Föhr in den Jahren 1850-1875" in Emder Jahrbuch or Friesisches Jahrbuch. 41:244-262. It is an alphabetical list of individuals emigrating from the island of Foehr. It provides the name of the emigrant, his age, occupation, parish of origin on Foehr (if given), and the year, month and day of emigration. Digitized copies of the Hamburg Passenger Lists are available on the Ancestry.com website. Microfilms of the Hamburg Passenger lists are available in the Family History Library.
