In Jelenia Góra in Książnica Karkonoska a meeting with an unusual man took place. Ullrich Junker, as he is referred to, has a strange approach to organizing his free time. After a day spent in the design office he relaxes by studying old chronicles.
For most ordinary people archives, especially those written by hand, are incomprehensible. But for Mr. Ullrich, such text gives him respite after a day of hard work. The more unreadable it is, the more satisfaction he gets when he reads it and rewrites it cleanly in the language he currently uses. In professional terms, this is called transcription.
When reading Gothic texts, Ullrich Junker transcribes them in the German Latin alphabet. And so that his work did not go to waste the texts are placed in the collection of Jelenia Góra Digital Library. Now we have access to parish books, town documents or chronicles of Cieplice and Miłków. We can find out how biblical sentences sound on the galleries in Grace Church in Jelenia Góra. Of course, this is not all. . The most valuable work of Ullrich Junker is making available 12 volumes of chronicles of Jelenia Góra by David Zeller, which contain invaluable information about our city
Ullrich Junker, working with the JBC for the last 10 years, has made the texts of many documents "accessible". There are already well over 100 items in the collection under his name. He, or rather his work, is at the top of the reading list. Therefore, it is no wonder that a lot of people came to the meeting with him. Mayor of Jelenia Góra Marcin Zawiła thanked him for his work and gave him a small gift. It was not without a cake
