Concept: Making children aware of the facts related to smoking
Content: The Breathe in Breath out, CD-Rom gives a playful insight into the hazards and ill-effects of smoking, How the industry manipulates children and adults into smoking, how many people take to smoking everyday and how many people are influenced when by your smoking.
The slogan "It is best to catch children young" A strategy that Philip Morris uses to increase sales makes it all the more necessary to keep children aware of the facts about smoking- How the industry is catching children young to increase markets. I personally do feel concerned about people who smoke as well as people who don't smoke. Both are at an equal risk. This CD is an effort to make the game players aware of the risks of smoking and to take responsibility for their action.
Design: Breath In Breathe Out is an educational CD-Rom that makes the viewer think about the effects of smoking and as a smoker his responsibility towards other people around him. In the first game the player tosses the cigarette ashes up into the ashtrays. If the ashes hit the body parts that are hovering around on stage they turn into cancerous body parts giving the viewer an instant 'shock' and an experience of something worse happening to others bodies while smoking. In level two, the player is collecting people into the ashtray giving an experience of the influence one has on other people around while one smokes, even though everyone is aware of the ill-effects of smoking. There are changing visuals of the Canadian statutory warning signs that appear on the smoking packet. The third level is more text based, where you get information about industry, how it manipulates children and adults into smoking, the facts that never are told.
The breathe In breathe Out CD-Rom makes the viewer take a decision about supporting the industry- the player answers a yes or no questions in the end, if the player says 'yes' a visual appears where a girl narrates her story as a smoker, coughs and chokes, while with 'no' a screen appears which instigates the player to take action against smoking as well as the tobacco industry.
