Air quality in European cities can be seen at 'http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/airbase-the-european-air-quality-database-2'. It is to be noted that air quality is much better in the developed countries than in the developing or under developed world.
Air quality in Chinese cities are shown in the State of Environment report of China for the year 2008 (see below).
Air quality in Japanese cities is present at 'http://www.env.go.jp/en/statistics/air/index.html#a_30'
which shows the trends of air pollutants in last few decades.
Air quality in Newzealand can be seen at 'http://www.mfe.govt.nz/environmental-reporting/air/air-quality/'
A person can live without food for 5-10 days, can live without water for 2-3 days but wouldn't be able to survive for minutes even without the eternal resource of air. But after independence, due to excessive industrialization and unwarranted automobile growth this spotless resource has come under the catastrophic range of pollution. Though in India it is restricted to urban areas only except few areas with some industries. Major air pollutants are particulate matter, sulphur di-oxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, photochemical oxidants, peroxyacetyl nitrate and peroxy benzoyl nitrate, metals and other gases & vapours (hydrogen sulphide, ammonia etc) effects of which can be devastating.
