This syllabus uses the new Aims syllabus template piloted in Spring 2019.
Black text indicates required language for all Aims syllabi
Red text indicates required English Department syllabus language (in some cases, where indicated, this text can be customized)
Green highlighted material is included for the instructor's planning purposes and should not be included in the syllabus distributed to students.
This schedule provides an outline of major assignment due dates and readings. It does not include small assignments such as quizzes, journals, etc., which should be added by the individual instructor. The schedule aligns with the Aims Online course resource shell.
A note on the readings: many relevant readings are listed for each unit. Instructors may assign all readings, but the best practice is to select from the three course texts based on the instructor's preference and teaching style. For example, each resource has information about MLA 8 documentation, and the instructor should select one resource, to avoid overwhelming students. Or, instructors can combine a visual graph from the Aims OWL with readings from Little Seagull. Instructors may also use resources they have developed themselves, or credible information found online to supplement the official course texts.
