English 1021 "emphasizes the planning, writing, and revising of compositions, including the development of critical and logical thinking skills. This course includes a wide variety of compositions that stress analytical, evaluative, and persuasive/argumentative writing" (Colorado Community College System).
ENG 1021 is the traditional college English writing course commonly known as "Freshperson English." Most undergraduate students seeking an A.A degree, A.S. degree, or certification must take this course. Satisfactory completion is a pre-requisite for many other courses.
The prerequisite for entering ENG 1021 is college-level readiness as determined by review of high school transcripts, assessment, and/or meeting with an Aims Academic Adviser.
At Aims, ENG 1021 follows state mandated learning outcomes and makes a point of emphasizing a final researched, documented, Persuasion Essay that privileges rhetorical elements of purpose, audience, proper research and documentation, as well as awareness of opposing-point-of-view. Steps along the way include summary, exploration, and evaluation.
Resources for students include qualified instructors, internet ready classrooms, Writing Center tutors, Writers' Community workshops, and an Online Writing Lab.
