Educational technology is used by both the teacher and the students in the classroom and is a combination of resources and process that enhance students learning and performance through creating, using, and managing appropriate technology. Educational technology increases the rate of learning and blends the science of learning with the art of teaching. It allows for students and teachers to collaborate, communicate, organize, and express creativity in different ways. Educational Technology can assist all types of learning styles and provides interactive, student-centered activities. Some examples of educational technology are the use of computers, iPads, and google chromes in the classroom. Other examples are educational apps, online educational games, and google classroom.
Now that I have taken this class and grown to understand the ISTE Standards help to clarify what technology integration can do in the classroom. Before this class, I was unaware of what the ISTE Standards were. Now I have a strong understanding and plan to use these standards in my own classroom in the years to come. The ISTE standards are a learning tool for students and teachers, that helps integrate technology use in the classroom to help student achievement, not just for fun and games. The ISTE standards incorporate:
Communication: Sharing thoughts, questions, ideas, and solutions
Collaboration: Working together to reach a goal and putting talent, expertise, and smarts to work
Critical Thinking: Looking at problems in a new way and linking learning across subjects and disciplines
Creativity: Trying new approaches to get things done equals innovation and invention
