I was wondering how could the main characteristic of the IT and digital movement of the last years be described by one single trend and came to the conclusion that this is the "MICRO" trend.
Not only is this trend consistently spread throughout various business and IT concerns but it could be interpreted as an overall moving factor in the online digital business today.
First of all think about the IT and software architecture that has to be highly scalable, performant and available across multiple devices. The main concept used to implement that is "MICRO" Services. Build an architecture taking the Single Responsibility Design Principle into account and shape your IT and business strategy based on this foundation. It happens and the trend will expand and persist.
Now on the business side lots of companies either consolidate or perform a transformation into an agile culture. An essential means of doing this is either throughout project management or change management processes or, for the already agile established companies, through continuous process improvement.
What is that called? "MICRO"successes that have to be acknowledged, celebrated and built upon. This idea is reflected in the seventh step of
John Kotter's Change Model (Build on the Change) and on the principle of continuous process improvement in Agile, reflected via Retrospectives (Scrum).
The "MICRO" trend bridges different disciplines and concepts in a new, unique way by unifying the business and IT sides, allowing for a "MICRO" trend guided release roadmap that can be successfully translated in effective iterations with efficient software designs and scalable deployments delivered one upon the other, this way instilling change.
