Acceptance Criteria: Per DHM Chair Andrew Dunn:
"The sustained extreme hospital census has led to discussion of our criteria for accepting inter-hospital transfers to our group. At present, we accept patients who can receive care at MSH that they cannot receive at their current hospital. Given the prolonged wait times for transfer and the impact on wait times in our own ED, we should limit transfers to those patients for whom Mount Sinai can offer a unique service. This may be a certain procedure or access to the subspecialist attending that knows them well and can best manage an acute complication (such as IBD). Patients who can get the same care at other tertiary hospitals should not be accepted. Please use your professional judgment as you discuss the possible benefits with the physician at the transferring hospital and make your decision based on your assessment of the value Mount Sinai specifically can offer. Hopefully this will decrease the number of transfers and hospital census. Please contact me anytime for assistance or if you have questions."
