Darkrai is a major character in Detective Pokemon Dungeons and Dragons. Initially thought to be the main antagonist, but he is really an anti-hero who assists the players. It is able to speak through telepathy.
Darkrai is calm and does not engage into conflict unless absolutely necessary. Like all others of its species, Darkrai is able to cause others to have nightmares, and it is able to use this ability to send messages to others. Especially the main Pokemon player of the campaign.
When Darkrai makes a promise, he intends on keeping it, even if the person he made a deal with has forgotten it.
Darkrai is also able to produce nightmare dream energy which is the main source of its nightmare inducing abilities. This nightmare energy is the main ingredient for making Fear.
Before the start of the campaign, it had a conflict with Cresselia, unbeknownst to either one, a member of Mirror attempted to take some dream energy from Cresselia in order to produce Fear, but they took Darkrai's nightmare energy instead. Thrilled with the results of the new drug, Gordon Jackson ordered the capture of the Pitch-Black Pokemon. Ten days later, a member of Mirror managed to capture Darkrai and bring it to Mirror Secret Headquarters. There they extracted as much nightmare energy as they could, causing Darkrai serious pain. Out of anger, Darkrai used Dark Pulse to shatter the container it was in and escaped Mirror's grip by disappearing into the shadows. Though now, Darkrai's ability to cause nightmares on others had weakened, now only being able to do so through the use of the move Nightmare.
Dark Pulse - Darkrai unleashes dark energy into a blast at an opponent. Damage: (2d8) force damage.
Dark Void - Darkrai can generate black orbs of nightmare energy and thrust it at targets. The black orbs envelope the target and soon disappear, putting the target to sleep.
Nightmare - By pointing at a sleeping target, Darkrai's hand will glow dark red and black, causing the target to have nightmares. Through this move, Darkrai is able to send visions or messages to his target.
Substitute - Darkrai takes 1d6 points of damage to create a duplicate of itself which disappears when it is attacked. Darkrai uses this move to escape his enemies.
Bad Dreams - Darkrai can make any sleeping enemy near it to experience nightmares, Darkrai can use this power to send messages and visions to his targets. He doesn't seem to have as much control as he does when he uses Nightmare as he can hardly focus on one target to send visions to. Darkrai lost this ability when his nightmare energy was stolen by Mirror.
Darkrai is able to disappear into nearby shadows and reappear in another place undetected.
Similar to Cresselia, Darkrai is able to produce dream energy which he uses in his nightmare-themed abilities, such as Bad Dreams. But, unlike Darkrai's nightmare energy, Cresselia's is pure dream energy that can counter Darkrai's nightmare energy. Darkrai's dream energy is not strong enough to counter Cresselia's.
Darkrai is able to speak his thoughts through telepathy.
