1730 Special

On the map, hex 1730 is blank, but there is actually some hidden activity there, although there is no star chart that has that system occupied by anything other than a brown dwarf and some natural space detritus of gas, dust and rock. If even that. Most star charts simply show the sector as blank.

However, there is a secret fleet located there and space station, in orbit around a small gas giant that is hidden from observation by sensors or telescopes by the thick gas and dust content in the system. Here's the datacard, even though those who already belong to it are the only ones who have it in their own starship's navigation charts.

System: No name, but those who know it sometimes call it simply "the Temple" and many of those who claim allegiance to the Temple call themselves Templars, after the ancient order of apostasy Christians from legends of Old Earth, if in fact that planet actually even existed.

Notes: If you imagine a kind of space opera version of Van Helsing and his organization (from the Hugh Jackman movie of the same name) combined with James Bond, then you understand what The Temple is all about. Not affiliated with any nation in the Rubicon sector exactly, but dedicated to promoting peace, prosperity and as much political stability as can be managed throughout the region, the Templars of Temple are a strange sort. Although a few live here and never really go anywhere else, most of those affiliated with the Temple actually have citizenship with some other nation in the area. Many also have multiple letters of marque from several of the nations in the area. But their true loyalties are to the Temple itself above any other nation, and for the most part they trust the judgement of the Templars' High Council.

Like I said, I envision them as somewhat like James Bond and Gabriel Van Helsing, or perhaps semi-independent freelancers like the main characters of Joseph Delaney's YA dark fantasy series about the Spook's Apprentice. Or, for that matter, kind of like space-faring Witchers, wandering Robin Hoods or the Man With No Name from the spaghetti westerns. Anyway, you get the drift; they are kind of wandering, somewhat ronin like spies and agents that are mostly focused on protecting the people of the Colonial Main. However, their mandate is to protect the people, not necessarily the governments or establishments, and in fact sometimes they understake to protect the people from their governments or establishments. They are not accountable to any except their own loose heirarchy, and their affiliation is often kept strictly secret. In fact, most doubt the existance of such an organization entirely, and the location of its hidden base is known only to those who belong to the Temple. Even the star charts on their ships don't show it, and navigation to The Temple has to be done manually, usually by droids who have removable memory chips with the navigation data on them locked in secret and hidden safes that only the Captain of each ship has access to.
