SAT and ACT prep

The SAT and ACT tests are nationwide standardized tests that most high school students take as part of their college preparations. The challenge: have all of the wide breadth of learning from Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry available at your fingertips for any question. Students benefit from review and practice! Each year I have the opportunity to help a number of high school students improve their performance on these tests. Just recently, my student achieved 800 on the SAT Math section!!

Why choose my tutoring approach instead of a more well known, standardized, test preparation course?

    • Individualized: I fit the preparation to the individual. We take into account strengths and weaknesses, time available, and willingness to do independent homework. After an initial assessment, we move quickly through material where the student already shines, and concentrate on advancing them where there is most 'payoff' at the right pace for your student. We learn and adjust as we go.

    • Class size: ONE! Your student. Full individual attention. Your student is more engaged and accountable.

    • Up to date: I am fully prepared on the 'new' SAT, revised in 2016. AND, I integrate my teaching with the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy.

    • Cost Effective: While you probably won't save or spend significantly extra on the tutoring approach, consider the much greater benefits of individual instruction, for equivalent cost. We can adapt to your budget, working from a few minimal hours on test strategy, up to scores of hours to meet your family's goals.

    • Convenience: class when you want it.

    • Competence: Like many SAT and ACT tutors, I have achieved high and perfect scores on the tests. I enjoy puzzles, games, and SAT problems! I convey techniques and knowledge.

    • Experienced: I have worked with one of the well known SAT prep companies, and know their process. I have designed my own SAT preparation class. I have worked with many individual students on both ACT and SAT preparation. I am not a college grad on their first job, I am an experienced high school math teacher.

    • You get the best of everything!

Other notes:

Material: I have a number of standardized Test Prep books that we work from. If your student prefers to write directly in the book, I will recommend one or more for you to buy. I rely on a free online practice test for an initial assessment. We will also use the great resources of the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy.

Location: Test prep sessions can be at your home, mine, or a public place.

Small classes: if your student would enjoy working with a friend, or if you would like to reduce costs, I am open to working with another student at the same time. We would follow a more structured process, reviewing topics in math, then help each student individually by bouncing attention back and forth.
