Aber and District League Tables

Having discovered an interesting website I have extracted final league table positions for the years between 1965 and 1972. The table for 1970 - 71 is missing unfortunately. Surprisingly it's a shame to see that not all fixtures were completed in some years which is maybe not surprising with student teams. 

Having also found league tables for the college 1sts and 2nds these are also included at the bottom. 

Here you can see that the college reserves and digs teams left the league and Astra, Arabs, Pantycelyn and Plynlymon joined in 1966. 

There is a problem with this league table as the figures don't match up. Towyn Res failed to complete 2 fixtures but only Llanfarian failed to play one game. 

Astra and the Arabs are slowly improving. 

These are the league tables included in Richard German's email. I never realised that there were two leagues at this stage and that Astra and Arabs may not have played against each other that season. 

This season may have had a lot of bad weather because it looks like only 2 teams completed all their fixtures and none of the college teams completed theirs. Phoenix may have finished above Arabs if they'd played one more game. 

This was the last season for Arabs and Astra must have dropped out the previous season, for which there is no final league table. Whales also decided to drop out this season. It appears that Arabs may have dropped out at the end of their most successful season. 

The 2nd XI, known as UCW Aberystwyth Reserves, only had two years in the Mid Wales League South - that was enough -and looking at the teams then you can see that every away game involved the twists and turns of the A44 to Llangurig. Not much fun if you usually had a lift with Dai Davies sitting in the back of his Austin A35 with one cheek on the mudguard over the back wheel. Despite that we finished second. 

We finished 4th and then dropped out. 

A gradual improvement moving up the league for Coll 1sts. There's a big gap between 6th and 7th.
