Everywhere we go, people always ask us
Who we are
Where we come from*
A Cub Scout (or, Wolf Cub or, simply, a “Cub”) is an eight- to ten-year old member of the Cub Scout section of the worldwide Scouting movement for young persons. Cub Scouts, and adult leaders, in our pack are primarily from south Winnipeg.
The "Pack" refers to all members in the Cub program. Within the pack, Cubs are grouped into "sixes." A Cub who is asked to lead a "six" is called a "sixer." The Sixer has an assistant called a "second." Cubs usually rotate through these early leadership jobs based on age and experience.
The primary adult leader of the pack is referred to as "Akela"--the name of the old wolf and leader of the pack in Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Each of the other leaders also has a name from The Jungle Book. Your leaders may have names like Raksha or Baloo. These are names of characters in The Jungle Book, a book written by Rudyard Kipling, long ago. It's the story of Mowgli, a young boy who is raised by animal friends in the jungle, and the basis for the Wolf Cub program.
Wolf Cubs Packs are usually linked to a Scout Group providing a community with all age sections. Our Group offers Beaver Scouts (age 5-7) on Monday evening, and Scouts (age 11-14) on Wednesday evenings. For older youth and young adults, we also offer Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts sections. Scouting offers programs that are popular and accessible. If you, or other youth or adults would like to join us this year, please come on out to a meeting to see for yourself.
