Kub Kars are toy racing cars built from kits. Each kit contains a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles. The wood is sawn (by adults) to the Cub Scouts’ specifications. The youth then add paint, and other embellishments for both speed and style.
Kars are raced, three at a time, down a sloped wooden track.
For fun and learning.
Races may be held at various venues, including at Pack meetings, or at Area, or City-wide racing events, called "rallies." A rally will typically feature separate races for "Beaver Buggies" and "Scout Rigs." These are variations on the Kub Kar, made from kits that are simpler and more complex, respectively. Prizes are awarded both for winning races and for aesthetic design.
There are many web sites dedicated to the art and science of the Kub Kar rally, or "Pinewood Derby" as it is called in the United States. Here are just a couple of them to get you started.
